State-of-the-art 'Technology Centre' for St. Patrick’s, Jaffna

A state- of- the- art ' Technology Centre' at St. Patrick’s College, Jaffna, was declared open by President Maithripal­a Sirisena on Monday. The Centre, constructe­d at a cost of Rs 30 million, funded by the College’s local and expatriate past pupils, will assist students with the Technology subjects.

While vesting the new 'Technology Centre' with the student community of St. Patrick’s College, President Sirisena urged the audience to be aware of elements trying to disrupt the ongoing reconcilia­tion process in the country, to capture political power.

President Sirisena in a symbolic gesture, handed over Letters of Appointmen­t to 10 Graduate teachers, from the Letters of Appointmen­t to 197 Graduate teachers in the North.

“Strengthen­ing the Free Education by all means is the responsibi­lity of the government and accordingl­y, all new Educationa­l policies will be taken while strengthen­ing Free Education,” President Sirisena said, while noting that graduates have resolved to take to the streets, demanding jobs, due to institutio­nal flaws in some government department­s.

He also noted that, during his recent trip to Japan, he learned there is a huge demand in Japan for Graduates with Technical expertise, which opportunit­y, qualified Sri Lankan Graduates could use in the future.This was one of the issues discussed with the Japanese prime minister, during his recent visit to Japan.

Archbishop Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith, Roman Catholic Bishop of Jaffna Justin Ber nard Gnanapraga­sam, Leader of the Opposition, R. Sampanthan, Northern Province Chief Minister C. V. Wigneswara­n, Members of Parliament Angajan Ramanahtha­n, Mawai Senathiraj­ah, as well as Principal of St. Patrick’s College, Staff members, parents and past pupils graced the event.
