St. Theresa’s School of Speech and Drama Outstanding Performances!
Dilushi Perera started teaching 18 years ago, following her passion to nurture children in the fine arts of speech craft. She is the founder of St. Theresa’s School of speech and Drama located in Raddolugama and Kelaniya.
The school conducted a major scale concert ‘ Lumos’ this January at the Lionel Wendt theatre, where more than 100 children took part.
‘ Lumos 2018’ indeed lit the stage up. Performances by the Lumos choir and the tiny tots from kindergarten and up till the youth in their twenties, pupils of St. Theresa’s were truly amazing. Lord Tennyson’s Light Brigade, was beautifully portrayed as they charged on, flashing their sabers, without a single blunder this time! The complexity of a ‘ Woman” was ingeniously depicted by the carefully chosen literary works, a confidently delivered ‘ Still I rise”, a poetic portrayal of “Lady Macbeth” who is plagued by madness caused by her own crimes and a sweet and carefree “Maria” who has the audience mesmerized, with her great singing voice, and excellent footwork!
The audience of Lumos 2018, is awaiting for the 2019 sequel to see the talents of these kids.
Dilushi Perera is renowned for the enormous number of participants at the British Lanka festival for performing arts – Organized by Institute of Music Speech and Speaking Skills ( IMSSS) by the Patronage of His Excellency The British High Commissioner Affiliated to the British & International Federation of Festivals For Music, Dance & Speech U.K. (Patron Her Majesty The Queen). Dilushi Perera, was quite grateful for many pillars of strength in her life. Quoting her “Ms Kamini Perera the directress of the Institute of Music Speech and Speaking Skills Pvt. Ltd. Was my teacher. I would say she is the “light of my life” who guided me. I am who I am as a teacher because of her guidance and teaching. I have been able to go to extremes to help kids and to be a friend. Ms. Kamini is a wonderful human being, a role model and an inspiration to me. I have to highlight that without my husband Yohan, I wouldn’t have been able to pursue my dream. I am grateful for his patience and for sacrificing his time to let me work towards what I love. He was an amazing pillar of strength to me. Not forgetting my family, my son and my daughter. My father, who was an inspiration to me; forever protecting us from heaven above. My sister and mother supporting me throughout. And the family of my husbands. They’ve truly been my own and has helped me in innumerable ways. Thank you for being my strength”
