Totally Pop in true Soul Sounds style

- By Oshani Alwis

Sri Lanka’s acclaimed female choir Soul Sounds is set to come back on stage with a repertoire of favourite pop hits on August 8, at the Lionel Wendt theatre.

With their last pop show, ‘Totally 90’s’ being a tremendous success, Soul Sounds embarked on the task of making novel choral arrangements for some of the biggest hits on the 90’s. Having done a concert of hits from the 80’s, this year’s show aptly named as ‘Totally Pop’ will bring on a much loved collection of pop songs from different eras. Covers from the Beatles, Lady Gaga, Prince, some RnB, Coldplay and even perhaps of Ed Sheeran are to be expected with some new arrangements in true Soul Sounds style.

Featuring two of Soul Sounds’s leading singers Roshie Wickramaratne James and Nimaya Harris, the choir will be directed by Soundarie David Rodrigo. The musicians for the show are Shane John on drums, Andrew Obeysekera on lead guitar, Pradeep Rodrigo on bass and Dhanushka Seneviratne on keyboards.

Music director Soundarie David Rodrigo who pioneered the Soul Sounds having just arrived back in Sri Lanka after being on the panel of adjudicators for the World Choir Games noted, “This time around ‘time’ has also been a challenge. However, the girls of Soul Sounds have always risen to the occasion and I do appreciate their dedication, hard work and most of all passion for music and singing.”

Soul Sounds is exclusively sponsored by DIMO and Fairway Holdings who have backed the group since 2014 and continue to support all their new ventures.
