-

The Executive Committee of SLMUN 2018 have successfully organized and executed a range of workshops all over the nation through the SLMUN Outreach program. From Moratuwa to Negombo and all the way to Galle, SLMUN has provided the youth of Sri Lanka opportunity to explore and learn and to sharpen MUN skills. To wrap up the Workshop Series, the final and the biggest workshop of all- the Main Workshop of Sri Lanka Model United Nations 2018 will be taking place on the 5th August 2018 at Ladies’ College, Colombo 07 from 8AM- 4PM. The Main Workshop is one of the most looked forward to events in the SLMUN calendar, as it when the Executive Committee is introduced to the public for the very first time.

The Main Workshop this year will focus on introducing the committees, SLMUN 2018 will be simulating many new committees that has not been simulated before. Delegates who will be present that day will find out how the 11th Session of SLMUN will be different from all past SLMUN conferences. Keeping up to the theme ‘ Redefining Global Diplomacy’, the executive committee will be explaining how they hope to redefine global diplomacy during conference, within their committees.

This workshop is targeted towards all the delegates and admins. This workshop would provide the opportunity to meet the Executive Committee for the very first time. Delegates will have the opportunity to learn more about the committees and topics and also clear their queries through their respective committee head tables. The delegates will also gain a better insight of what is expected of them during committee sessions. Delegates will also be debriefed on the procedures of MUN alongside an improvised committee sessions at the workshop itself. The improvised practice debate would be a first hand experience for the novice delegates to experience MUN in its purest form before the Practice Debate. This is also the very first event where delegates meet fellow delegates in the committee and strike up friendships with them which can be very beneficial during conference especially during lobbying and resolution writing.

The International Press Corps (IPC) workshop too will be taking place on the same day at the same venue. First time IPC delegates are especially encouraged to come for the IPC workshops as they will be learning about the basics of journalism and how to write an engaging article. A few acclaimed journalists in the industry will conduct the IPC workshop. IPC delegates can clear out their queries through the IPC head table or even from the acclaimed journalists who will be present.

It will be a day full of fun and laughter and delegates will be learning more about MUN, UN and global issues in a very chilled out, relaxed environment. So don’t miss it!
