Kasun, a complete sportsman
Abud that bloomed in the sacred city of Kataragama, spread its fragrance to the capital city of Colombo when he was awarded a scholarship by Lyceum International School, Wattala where he made the school to stand high in sports.
This youngster is Kasun Wanigasekera, a complete sportsman who excels in whatever sports discipline he takes part – track and field, cricket or soccer is still in the limelight even after leaving school.
Kasun continues from where he left last year by dominating in district and provincial level track and field meets. Year 2018 is a good year for this promising sportsman as he had achieved many championship awards so far.
In the National Youth Sports Festival 2018 Kasun clinched the first places in the Over- 20 category 100metre, high jump and triple jump events.
Winning first places in his pet events on Over- 20 100metre, triple jump and long jump at the District Meet 2018 this sensational athlete proved that he had not lost the touch and is heading to a bright future in the field. He was a member of the 4x100m relay team that grabbed the first position.
Kasun played a leading role in the 4x100m relay event at the 44th National Sports Festival in Badulla. He occupied the second spot in the long jump event.
In the District Meet held at Monarag a l a this lad f rom Kataragama clinched the second spots in the long and high jump events.
Representing Blue Diamond Sports Club, Kasun came out with flying colours at the qualifying events winning first places in long jump, 100m and 4x100m relays. He was adjudged the Best Athlete at the meet.
Kasun is not only an athlete he excels in cricket as an opening bowler with a menacing speed. He is also a superb soccer player.
If this youngster gets proper guidance and encouragement he will be an asset to the country and it is high time that the authorities take a note of this talented athlete’s achievements.
