Equestrian Show in Diyatalawa on August 26

-

For the first time in its history, the Sri Lanka Equestrian Association (SLEA) will have a Horse show at the Sri Lanka Military Academy Polo Ground in Diyatalawa on Sunday, August 26. It will be conducted under 4 disciplines- Show Jumping, Tent Pegging, Barrel Racing and Enter Driving.

The SLEA expects to add more events to its annual calendar to give its riders more exposure. The SLEA conducted the successful Victoria Golf & Horse Cross Country event in Digana last year, where well known horses and riders took part.

SLEA President Suranjith Premadasa expects the forthcoming event to attract more entries now accepted at the Equestrian Centre, Melder Place, Nugegoda.

"Stepping up to a golden era in Equestrian sports activities, the aforementioned categories will be in the competition. This is a positive way forward for the sport," Premadasa stated.

"The SLEA considered the convenience of the spectators when setting up the date for a Sunday, as it will be a great opportunity for parents to give their children a novel experience of watching a colourful Equestrian sports competition during the August school vacation."

Equestrian sports are horseback games mostly based on ancient military cavalry training methods, which help better maneuvering of horses on the battlefield. SLEA, the National body for Equestrian activities in Sri Lanka, has been promoting the sport in the country, with events taking place annually.
