Canadian, Lankan Unis. to collaborate on Higher Education
The University of Calgary (UoC), Canada, on Thursday signed agreements with the University of Moratuwa (UoM) and the University of Sri Jayewardenepura (UoSJ'Pura), to collaborate on Educational and Research activities, and exchange of students and Faculty staff. This will be followed up with exploring a PhD Cotutelle programme (dual Degree programme) between UoC and the 2 local Universities. The PhD Cotutelle programme offers Research students an unparalleled international experience, working alongside worldclass Researchers across 2 Universities.
UoC Vice-Provost (International) Prof Janaka Ruwanpura signed the respective agreements with UoM Vice Chancellor (VC) Prof K.K.C.K. Perera and UoSJ'Pura VC Prof Sampath Amarathunga, and Dean of the Faculty of Graduate Studies, Prof Hemanthi Ranasinghe, a press release from the Canadian High Commission said.
“These agreements show our commitment to a unique collaboration that supports highachieving students to conduct study and research at both partner universities,” says Prof Ruwanpura.
“It also demonstrates the UoC’s long-term commitment to enable our students and scholars to internationalize their experience and strengthen their leadership and cross-cultural skills through diverse programmes, including the Canadian Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Scholarships (QES) programme.” (please see link- https://www.queenelizabethscholars.ca/ )
Representatives from Sri Lanka’s Ministry of Higher Education, University Grants Commission, High Commissioner (HC) for Canada in Sri Lanka, David McKinnon and distinguished Canadian alumni in Sri Lanka attended the signing ceremony. At the event, HC McKinnon stated that, ”This agreement builds on the deep and longstanding educational links between Canada and Sri Lanka, to provide global opportunities for a new generation of innovators.”
