Hill Country International School makes great strides
The first impression gives a background to what is in store for anyone and that is what made me to look forward to a school in Wattegama on the KandyMatale road. The childrenreturning from school made an impressionable appearance.
Hill Country International School was founded by a group headed by A.A.M.Jazil, a science graduate, and started with thirteen tutors and seventyfive students. A mixed school with 1,250 students, it conducts classes from kindergarten to the advanced level in English, which is one of the primary needs in the present day world. The school also caters to students from all communities and backgrounds.
School Chairman Dr.L.M.Rayees has introducedMontessori Methods of teaching for children betweenthe ages of twoand-a-half-years and four years. The Early Learning Center located in a splendid environment is ably guided by Dr. Rayees. Astimulating atmosphere is created where the chidlren’s curiosity is aroused to explore and discover knowledge as they enjoy their learning career.
Among the achievements was when M.F.F. Zainab was awarded the Bronze medal for her excellent performance at the International Primary School Certificate Examination.
A.M.Mahir, who has a Master’s degree from the London University, is a livewire of the board. His vision is that the school, while having an identity, should also cater for all grades and ethnic groups in the surroundings, so that they could live in harmony.
School’s founder and principal A.A.M.Jazilsays the school’s achievementsare due to the energetic and dynamic tutorial staff who are dedicated and committed to the task of teaching.
The school also promotesseveral sports activities including cricket. Students are divided into three houses -- Topaz, Emerald andSapphire.
The Principal said thatanattitude change through motivation is necessary to improve one’s personality. Most students fail to make a change for the better in their lives because they lack motivation or are not motivated in the correct way. As part of its efforts to motivate students, the schools invites eminent persons to address the students.
The last Prize-giving was chaired by the Assistant Indian High Commissioner RadhaVenkatraman.
