The PM of Serbia is a Northwood Graduate!

-

Driven by its mission to “develop leaders, managers, and entrepreneurs with the character and skills to drive personal, organizational, and societal success,” Northwood University ( NU) of America enjoys a reputation for specialized business education. Since its inception in 1959, the University ( NU) has produced a plethora of famous alumni from politicians and entrepreneurs to actors, sportsmen, and academics and reached out to students from around the world through its residential campus in America, over 29 extension centers across the U. S. A., and international programs centers in Europe, the Middle East, Southeast Asia, China and Sri Lanka. One of NU’s most prominent graduates is the Prime Minister of Serbia, Ana Brnabi who earned her Bachelor’s in Business Administration degree from the NU in 1998.

A former ‘Businesswoman of the Year’ in Serbia, Ana Brnabi had been working over ten years with foreign investors and international organizations including several US consulting companies that implemented USAID-financed projects in Serbia, local self-government units, and the public sector in Serbia before her government was voted into office on 29 June 2017. She is also the founder and the first executive director of the non- profit PEXIM Foundation, which arranges opportunities for Serbs to study at Cambridge University in England and then return to work in Serbia.

Just one year into her term, Ana’s authentic approach to leadership has drawn the global attention; digitalization of the nation’s economy and improving education are her top two priorities: “I have a vision of a modern society based on a better education system and a system of values, one where knowledge and competence are paramount. We need to redefine everything that has been done for the past several years, and the first and the most significant step is digitalization.”

Ana Brnabi is grateful to Northwood University for an unparalleled college experience that broadened her mind: “I wanted to study at an American university. I wanted to have an American bachelor’s degree in business… I found out about the Northwood University program in London, and I went for an interview. It was a very interesting program. I was always interested in politics, and Northwood provided that. One of my favorite subjects was the economics of public policy. That subject is something that was not available in terms of European degrees… We had several lectures there… I often remember the fantas- tic courses that I had from Northwood. It was time well spent, and a fantastic educational experience. It changed a lot of my thinking at the time, thinking about public policy.”

The 14- year- old ANC- Northwood partnership has also produced approximately 2000 business graduates and established a strong record of career success for every one of them. In line with Northwood’s emphasis on experiential learning, ANC offers both solid academics and a unique hands- on experience that combines strong academics with paying job opportunities. NU has taken several initiatives to restructure the Northwood university system to provide a better service to the community. They include nurturing and expanding its international partnerships as well as enhancing the Northwood University experience for today’s students and those well into the future.
