Don’t miss the thrill of competing in the Senior Citizens Scrabble Tournament

Every Friday from 9 a.m. to 12 noon, the members of the Colombo branch of the Sri Lanka Associatio­n of Senior Citizens meet at St. Paul’s Church Hall, to not merely reminisce about the good old days but also to share a game of bingo, scrabble, bridge, carrom and card games.

Age is no barrier to having fun and the thrill of competing against one another is always keenly anticipate­d: thus the Sri Lanka Associatio­n for Senior Citizens will hold its annual AllIsland Senior Citizens Scrabble Tournament on October 28 at the Colombo Hilton Amethyst Room with the registrati­on beginning at 7.30 a.m.

The tournament will be held under two categories. Category “A” will be for the words from the Collins Scrabble Words Dictionary while Category “B” is for the players who use more traditiona­l words from the Oxford English Dictionary.

Entry forms can be obtained from Mrs. Farida Akbarally, No.28, Clifford Place, Bambalapit­iya (077-7786222) and Mrs. Indrani Atukorale, No.102/1, Dharmapala Mawatha, Colombo 7 (011-2696993) The entry fee is Rs. 800 and the closing date for entries is October 18.

The associatio­n also arranges annual picnics, monthly potlucks, sing-alongs and much more for their members.

Anyone who is over the age of 50 is welcome to join the associatio­n by dropping in at St. Paul’s Church Hall, Milagiriya on a Friday from 9 a.m to 12 noon.
