Celebrating 70 years of excellence in higher education in Agriculture and 50 years since the establishment of the Mahailupallama sub- campus, the Faculty of Agriculture, University of Peradeniya organizes “Ag Tech 2018” Agricultural Technology Exhibition. The exhibition will be held on 4th, 5th, 6th and 7th October 2018 at the Mahailupallama sub- campus premises. The wide-ranged exhibition under the theme of “agriculture beyond the horizon” will cover various aspects of agriculture and technology to offer a new experience to visitors. The Faculty of Agriculture, University of Peradeniya: the pioneer of higher education in agricultural technology wishes to unfold the latest technologies in agriculture in an exciting manner to all Sri Lankans in a whole new level.

With a well experienced academic staff of the highest caliber, the faculty comprises 137 permanent staff members, out of which about 110 holds doctorates in various specialisations while approximately 50% of the academic staff are professors. The faculty is equipped with the latest laboratory and library facilities while the students have a chance to complete their postgraduate studies at Post Graduate Institute of the Faculty.

Established in 1948 with only 18 undergraduate students, the faculty now takes pride in producing around 300 graduates each year. The faculty offers three undergraduate degree programmes, namely, B.Sc. Agricultural Technology and Management, B.Sc. Food Science and Technology and B.Sc. Animal Science and Fisheries through eight academic departments of studies that are well established, namely Agricultural Biology, Agricultural Engineering, Agricultural Economics and Business Management, Agricultural Extension, Animal Science, Crop Science, Food Science and Technology, and Soil Science. The exhibition is set to feature exhibits covering all the departments mentioned above. Further, Ag Tech 2018 exhibition will gather many agriculture-related stakeholders from both the public and the private sector.

There are two main routes to enter the exhibition site. They are; Mahailupallama junction and Endegala junction in the Anuradhapura – Kekirawa Road. There will be shuttle services available at the Mahailupallama junction for the public who will attend the exhibition. The exhibition area at the sub- campus will be divided into three main zones as; A, B and C. It is a fact that most people think that agriculture is restricted to farming and animal husbandry only. However, when you go through these three main zones, you would understand that agriculture involves a gamut of science and technological innovations that most of you have not experienced before.

Throughout the exhibition, participants will be taken through practical and engaging sessions to enable them to gain more profound insights into the best and the latest practices in agriculture.
