‘Musings’, a stepping stone in her artistic journey
Hiranthi Jayasundara who hails from Baddegama in
Galle grew up immersed in village life and culture. Today, art is a fulfilling pastime which gives her immense satisfaction. She says “I do my painting during my free time and when I’m in the right mood.” Finding free time is not easy as she has two sons and works as an Art Teacher at the Asian International
School (AIS).
Teaching some years ago in Calgary, Canada she joined the Alberta College of Art and Design and studied acrylic painting. “Graduating from this academy was a big achievement for me, as I wanted to learn proper techniques and obtain a deeper knowledge and I got the opportunity to sharpen and enhance my skills,” she says.
“I only do acrylic paintings at the moment because the colours are easy to mix to get vibrant shades and tints. I pre- fer to do figurative and abstract paintings and landscape art as well. But I think my passion is for dancers and horses. I love painting ballet dancers mostly, I think because it was my childhood dream that was never realised.’
Hiranthi says her ambition is to take her paintings to international exhibitions. ‘Musings’ therefore is the stepping stone in her journey as an artist.
“Musings’ by Hiranthi’ will be held at the JDA Perera Gallery , 46, Horton Place, Colombo 7,on November 23 and 24 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
