Lyceum Int. Wattala emerge champions

Ly c e um Internatio­nal School, Wattala with 67 medals won the Championsh­ip at the 24th Inter Internatio­nal Schools Swimming Championsh­ip 2018 at the Sugathadas­a Swimming Complex last weekend.

Organised by the Asian Internatio­nal School with Nihara Bagoose as Head of Hosts, this year’s event was worked off in 105 events for Boys and Girls in the age groups from Under 10 to Under 20 was participat­ed by 19 internatio­nal schools and was competed by 824 swimmers in the individual events and 2092 swimmers in the relay events.

Lyceum Wattala’s total of medals included 25 Gold, 21 Silver and 21 Bronze medals and Gateway College, Colombo with 48 medals (18 Gold, 19 Silver and 11 Bronze) occupies the second place. Lyceum School, Nugugoda ( 44 medals), Lyceum School, Panadura (24 medals) and Colombo Internatio­nal School (15 medals) are in third, fourth and fifth places respective­ly.

Ninteen new individual records were establishe­d along with eleven records in relay events were establishe­d at this year’s event. Kyle Abeysinghe of Wcherley Internatio­nal School and Hiruki De Silva of Gateway College, Colombo were outstandin­g among swimmers to set up three new new records each. Abeysinghe establishe­d new records in Boys 16 and Over 200 Individual Medley ( IM) with a time of 2:17.13mts, Boys 16 and Over 100m Freestyle with a time of 51.85secs and Under 20 Boys 50m Freestyle with a time of 23.97 secs.

Hiruli De Silva also set up three new records in Under 14 Girls 100m Freestyle with a time of 1: 04.62mts, Girls Under 14 200m Freestyle with a time of 2:24.39mts and Girls Under 14 100m Butterfly event timing 1:10.39mts.
