Special supervisors to check exam cheating

A special supervisor will be assigned to every examination hall during the G. C. E ( O/ L) examination, mainly to prevent cheating with the aid of hi-tech devices.

The main task of the supervisor who will be backed by a teacher will be to check if students are using devices such as smart phones and smart-watches at the examination, a senior official said. The supervisor will also ensure that the students do not answer the paper during the 10 minutes given to them to read the questions, he said.

The official said the objective was to minimise exam cheating.

Meanwhile, the Examinations Department has made arrangements for private candidates to download their admission cards, if they have not received them by post.

Of some 656,641 students sitting the GCE O/ L examination, 422,850 are school candidates..

The examination will be held from December 3 to 12 at 4,661 centres.

There will be 441 coordinating centres while 47,692 staff will be deployed to conduct the examination.

Some 36,000 teachers will mark the answer papers from December 16 to January 1.

The official said the marking process had been expedited to enable teachers to begin their school work when the first term begins in the first week of January.
