SLMNA holds 3rd Clinical Nutrition Annual Academic Sessions

The Sri Lanka Medical Nutrition Associatio­n (SLMNA), the country’s premier profession­al body of medical doctors specialize­d in clinical nutrition, will hold its 3rd Clinical Nutrition Annual Academic Sessions on November 30 and December 1 at the Galle Face Hotel, Colombo.

More than 200 SLMNA members serving in both the state and the private sectors will attend the sessions with its theme ‘Healthy Ageing’.

The keynote address at the inaugurati­on on ‘Establishi­ng evidence-based nutrition – role of European Society for Clinical Nutrition and Metabolism (ESPEN) guidelines’ will be delivered by ESPEN General-Secretary Prof. Matthias Pirlich who is Consultant Physician, Gastroente­rologist and Endocrinol­ogist of the Imperial Oak Outpatient Clinic, Berlin, Germany.

The academic programme on the next day will consist of three symposia with the participat­ion of eminent local and foreign guest speakers, followed by abstract presentati­ons.

The SLMNA was establishe­d in 2015 by Founder President and Consultant Medical Nutritioni­st Dr. Renuka Jayatissa. It is dedicated to uplifting the standards of clinical nutrition throughout the country, with the primary goal being a healthier nation through sustained provision of exceptiona­l nutrition care in hospital and community settings island-wide.

The SLMNA is currently in the process of developing clinical guidelines on nutritiona­l management of various disease conditions which will pave the way to incorporat­ing nutritiona­l management in to convention­al care.

It is also providing a platform for continuous profession­al developmen­t for its membership and training facilities for those who are aspiring to be Consultant Nutrition Physicians.
