Antonians record inspiring innings win over top division Joes

Theeksha Gunasinghe’s Antonian’s scored one of their grandest wins in recent times when they beat a strong Josephian side by innings and 18 runs at Katugastot­a to win the MuraliVaas trophy.

Three players stood out in this famous victory. The skipper made a brilliant 142. Kalhara Senaratne also stroked a hundred. Nimanaka Jayathilak­e--the boy-wonder captured 12 for 110.

The hosts made a strong reply to the Joes first innings total of 218, posting 354 for 7 declared on the back of two centuries from Theekshana Gunasinghe (142) and Kalhara Senarathna (106).

They then bowled the visitor out for 119 in the second innings with Nimnaka Jayathilak­e running through the innings claiming seven for 43 runs.

Meanwhile Thaveesha Abishek scored a brilliant century (123) as Richmond College registered first innings win over Wesley College in their U-19 match concluded at Campbell Park.

In response to Wesley’s first innings score of 309 which came on the back of Kavindana Perera century, Richomnd resuming from their overnight score of 29 for no loss, reached 314 for 4 at stumps. Dinuja Kiriella (95) and Dilum Sudeera (55) hit half centuries to propel their innings.

Shalin de Mel smashed a brilliant unbeaten 151 before seamer Kalana Perera and Dilmini Ratnnayake ran through Mahanama top order to put S. Thomas’ on top in their match commenced at Mount Lavinia. S. Thomas’ scored a formidable 395 for 5 declared largely thanks to the innings of Shalin and two half centuries from Maneesha Rupasinghe (82) and Sithara Hapuhinna (53).

Meanwhile Ranmith Jayasena hit a masterful (116) as St. Peter’s batting first scored a formidable 329 for 6 declared against Royal in their match commenced at Bambalapit­iya yesterday. At stumps Royal were 22 for no loss.
