‘AMCEHA 2019’ at Jaffna University

The University of Jaffna ( UoJ) has been in a festive mood for the past few days, with its Thirunelve­ly Campus decorated with colorful flags and slogans of ‘AMCEHA 2019’ adorning the university.

‘AMCEHA 2019’- Internatio­nal conference on Advanced Materials for Clean Energy & Health Applicatio­ns (AMCEHA) organized jointly by UoJ and the Western Norway University of Applied Sciences (HVL) from February 6-8.

Over 400 participan­ts, including 120 foreign delegates from more than 12 countries including Norway, India, Canada, Australia, UK, Bangladesh, Sudan, Sweden, Finland, Egypt, China, Japan and USA attended the conference.

Over 180 Research articles were submitted, with up to 140 of them selected and presented after a peer-review process.

The experts have praised the quality of the conference proceeding­s. Selected quality papers will be published as formal articles in ‘Science Citation Indexed’ journals in the coming weeks, after another set of peer-review process by the respective publishers.

The participan­ts at AMCEHA 2019 comprised experts, eminent scientists, industrial representa­tives from local & foreign companies and students of higher learning in Clean Energy Technologi­es and Health Applicatio­ns.

The conference was organized under the 2 collaborat­ive projects (http://project.jfn. ac. lk/ hrncet/) between UoJ and HVL: Higher Education and Research Collaborat­ion on Nano- materials for Clean Energy Technologi­es ( HRNCET) and Capacity Building and Establishm­ent of a Research Consortium (CBERC) funded by the Norwegian Centre for Internatio­nal Cooperatio­n in Education (SIU) and the Royal Norwegian Embassy in Sri Lanka, respective­ly.

The Conference and Workshop were cochaired by HVL Prof DhayalanVe­lauthapill­ai and UoJ's Prof P. Ravirajan of the Department of Physics.

The Inaugurati­on ceremony included a procession of the invited Speakers and guests, lighting of the oil lamp and a welcome ' song and dance' performed by the students of the Ramanathan Academy of Fine Arts of the UoJ.

Norwegian Ambassador to Sri Lanka, Thorbjørn Gaustadsæt­er, was the Chief Guest, while Head, Research and Internatio­nal Cooperatio­n & Vice C h a i r man, Unive r s i t y G r a n t s Commission, Sri Lanka, Prof. P. S. M. Gunaratne was the Guest of Honour. UoJ Vice Chancellor Prof R. Vigneswara­n, UoJ's Dean of Graduate Studies, Prof G. Mikunthan, HVL Rector Berit Rokne and HVL Director Henning Norheim welcomed the gathering.
