Advancemen­t and dignity of farmer community foremost: Anura Kumara Dissanayak­e

The National Peoples’ Power presidenti­al candidate Anura Ku m a r a D i s s a n ay a ke , addressing a mass rally at Dambulla, assured that, all f actors hampering the advancemen­t and the dignity of the farmer community will be addressed if he is elected.

He pointed out that, those farmer communitie­s he met in many areas of the country, strongly requested to end social menaces such as drug addiction, f ro m their communitie­s, as they cripple the farmer communitie­s and the agricultur­e sector. He added, it is undoubtedl­y, the misuse of political power that has led to the wide spread of the drug menace in the country. Mr Dissanayak­e pointed out that there will be zero space for drug menace in a Government led by him.

The rally in Dambulla hosted a mass gathering of farmers. Members of the All Island Farmers’ Federation organised the rally.

According to local reports, these farmers marched across the township and rallied at the market ground in support of the NPP candidate. Addressing the rally, Mr Dissanayak­e stressed that he will ensure a dignified life and a strong economy for the farmer community of the country. “Today, the youth of the farmer community is uncertain about their future. The young men would rely on the income generated from three- wheel hires or, would prefer to accept a security j o b. T h i s uncertaint­y has created a life of dilemma for young women,” he added.

"Members from all segments of the society and experts have got together today to change the country, to create a better future for the next generation. “We cannot pass this corrupt burden to future generation­s,” he added.

In this effort, he added, that the farmer community can extend a major contributi­on by being a part of the national movement.
