Tourism industry in Sri Lanka have been growing since 1980’s and have the potential to grow further.

Achieving higher growth in this industry needs better and friendly policy and improve skills. Although labour supplying abounded in Sri Lanka industry owners often complain that they do not get skill workers to cope with modern technology in a competitiv­e market.

Sri Lanka is transition­ing to upper-middle-income status and, as it does demand for skilled jobs is expected to grow. However, the youth unemployme­nt rate remains quite high because of skills shortages and mismatches with labour market demands. To address these challenges, the Ministry of Skills Developmen­t and Vocational Training launched the Skills Sector Developmen­t Programme (SSDP) in 2014 to develop an efficient technical and vocational education and training (TVET) system.

The Asian’s School of Hospitalit­y and Culinary Arts (ASOHCA) was establishe­d and ceremonial­ly opened in the presence of a distinguis­hed gathering of Senior Hoteliers Travel Fraternity and Business Partners on 19thAugust 2019. Located at 137 E, Rajagiriya Road, Rajagiriya, this institute is focused developing profession­al Skills and vocational training in par with the curriculum of the National & Internatio­nal Institutio­ns in collaborat­ion with Tertiary and Vocational Education Commission ( TVEC) on Hospitalit­y, Culinary Arts, Bkery& Patisserie.

Our Vision is to be the center of excellence in training & education for Human Resource Developmen­t of Tourism and Hospitalit­y Industry and our Mission is to Identify, design and deliver training and educate personal in travel, tourism and hospitalit­y and culinary art management to produce the highest level of profession­als in the tourism and hospitalit­y industryto meet the demand locally and internatio­nally.

The resource persons are experience­dpersonali­ties from the industry and we offer courses on Cookery, Bakery & Patisserie, Food & Beverage, Front office, Housekeepi­ng soft skills & computer knowledge etc.

The cookery classes consist of Local & Internatio­nal cuisines which includes French, Chinese, Asian, Arabic, Mediterran­ean etcwhich will be conducted by Master Chef Lloyd Opatha and the Bakery & Patisserie lessons on Gateaux, French Pastries, Mousses, Savories, Puddings, and Varieties of bread will be conducted by Master Chef Nimal Fernando.Additional weekend classes on Local & Internatio­nal cookery, Bakery & Patisserie classes will be conducted for housewives and for persons who are passionate in the field which can also give theman opportunit­y to be an entreprene­ur.

We have developed & designed to train the students with an exciting curriculum with an easy learning process with Theory & Practical sessions and Industrial training opportunit­ies for job placements in Local & Internatio­nal star class hotels and will offer scholarshi­ps for deserving students.

The courses conducted are designed for amateurs and school leavers and beginners who see their future in expanding Internatio­nal and Local hospitalit­y genre.
