Galadari celebrates 35th b’day with staff

- By Ruqyyaha Deane

The Galadari Hotel celebrates 35 successful years today. A 450-roomed property, this star class hotel, located in the hub of Colombo with a beautiful view of the Colombo skyline, the upcoming Port City and the Indian Ocean, has been a familiar sight in Fort since opening its doors in 1984.

Speaking to the press, General Manager of the Galadari Hotel Sampath Siriwardena shared his thoughts on reaching this milestone. “We recovered faster than anybody else thought. Our people as a nation, we are very resilient. The month of October, the entire hotel is aburst with our 35th anniversary celebration which is a huge milestone for us, going through good times and bad times.”

To celebrate a little more than three decades of service and hospitality, Galadari has organised events focusing mostly on their loyal staff as a sign of gratitude for their hard work and dedication.

The festivities began on October 1 with a lucky dip for the Hotel’s 508 permanent employees. From washing machines to supermarket vouchers, every employee walked away with a prize. On October 5 a road race was organised for the staff with more grand prizes on offer.

An all-night ‘Pirith’ has also been organised today in remembrance of colleagues who lost their lives in 1997 in the World Trade Center bomb attack as well as for those who died under other tragic circumstances. A multi-religious service will follow tomorrow.

Their CSR projects have always taken in youth from rural areas for training and then absorbed them into their hotel. This time, Galadari has come together with Manusath Derana and undertaken a youth recruitment campaign in Kohombagaskada Vidyalaya Konwewa. The hotel provides accommodation, an allowance and necessities for the youth during their one-year training period.
