AIS Student Excels at Oxford Summer School

-

Oshea Reddy attended the Oxford Royale Academy’s world-renowned Oxford Summer School, on a full scholarship, in the summer of 2019. She enjoyed two rigorous weeks where she attended seminars, focusing on Global Issues, Contemporary History and Philosophy. Oshearevelled in this intense intellectual experience led by Oxford’s lectures.

Reflecting on her experience, she says, “Diving head first into a subject I had never studied before (Philosophy) and a subject very close to my heart (Contemporary History) - I genuinely did not know what to expect in terms of my academics. However, my Professors were some of the best I’ve had and they were committed to making the learning wonderful,” observed Oshea.

Her studies covered development and sustainability issues, protests and political movements in the internet age, the Arab- Israeli Conflict, the rise of modern China and Islamic fundamentalism. She enjoyed her general introduction to Philosophy that sampled the Ancient Greeks and DesCartes, and focused on the existentialist thought of Jean-Paul Satre.

“It was a well-deserved scholarship and she has made us proud” noted the Principal of AIS, Mr. HarshanaPerera. Her instructor in Philosophy praised her capacity for ‘airtight’ reasoning and her lucid grasp of Sartre’s ideas, inviting her to dive in to the subject. “Her deep love of history was clear,” said another instructor, “because she can present her views in ways that involve and encourage deeper reflection than her peers.”

The programme was not all studies either. Oshea lived on the picturesque Oxford campus and travelled out on excursions with students from all over the world, giving her a taste of university life to come. She would want to relive the experience if she could: “Perhaps the best thing about studying with Oxford Royale Academy is that we get to integrate with students from all corners of the world. Studying with ORA at one of their summer schools is an opportunity I highly recommend t o anyo n e. ” concluded Oshea.
