Int’l Research Conference on ‘Challenges to Humankind in the face of new Technologi­es’

The 12th Internatio­nal Research Conference (IRC) on ‘Challenges to Humankind in the face of new Technologi­es’, with the aim of offering focused and indepth discussion­s on a number of selected topics, together with plenary and technical sessions under several main topics and discipline­s, was held on September 11- 12, at the KDU, Ratmalana.

KDU, which has been in the forefront of Tertiary Education in SriLanka for over 3 decades hosted their 12th IRC, which featured pre-conference workshops on discussion­s on several related subjects, as well as plenary and technical sessions on topics and discipline­s under the following themes.

Defence & Strategic Studies (with participat­ion of local and internatio­nal military personnel as well as civil intellectu­als), Engineerin­g ( E l e c t r i c a l , E l e c t ronic & Telecommun­ication, Biomedical, Civil, Mechanical, Aeronautic­al and Marine Engineerin­g), Computing ( Computer & I nfo r mat i o n Technology), Medicine (Pre/para & Clinical areas), Basic & Applied Sciences ( Biochemist­ry, Molecular Biology, Biotechnol­ogy, Agricultur­e, Phy s i c s, Mathematic­s and Chemistry), Allied Health Sciences ( Nursing, Medical Laboratory Science, Pharmacy, Radiology and Physiother­apy), Law ( Public & Internatio­nal Law, Private & Comparativ­e Law, Commercial & Military Law), Management/Social Sciences & Humanities (Management, Social Sciences, Language, Political Science & Economics), Built Environmen­t and Spatial Sciences (Architectu­re, Landscapin­g, Quantity Surveying & Surveying).

Aravind Bhatia and his wife from India, Dato Akhtar Zainudin from Malaysia, Dr Sara De Silva from UAE, ( For Faculty of Engineerin­g)-Rea Adm (Rtd) Simon Henley CEng FRAes from UK, ( For Faculty of Computing)- Prof Abhaya Induruwa/ his wife from UK, ( For Faculty of Law) Dr James Griffin from UK, Prof Aravind Jasrotia from India, ( for Faculty of Allied Health Sciences) Dr Chulananda Gunasekera from UK, Dr Magot Skinner from New Zealand, ( For Faculty of Management)- Prof. Reider K Lie from Norway, Prof.Moi Meng Ling from Japan( For Faculty of Management, Social Sciences & Humanities) Prof.Bob Simpson from UK.

Director of Centre for Cybercrime & Security Innovation (CCSI) in the School of Law, Criminal Justice and Computing at Canterbury Christ Church University in the United Kingdom, Professor Abhaya Induruwa was the Key-note speaker an internatio­nally recognized Sri- Lankan expert possessing immense knowledge on the research theme (considered as the founder of Internet in Sri-Lanka), currently serving as the where he leads research into security and forensic investigat­ion of Internet of Things (IoT).

The respective conference attracted more than 500 papers, 1000 authors and exceeding of 2000 participan­ts from diversifie­d fields the world over each year and it is therefore a platform for prominant individual­s from both military and civil background­s in disseminat­ing their knowledge. KDUIRC is one of the largest Internatio­nal Conference's held in the country and also the only Conference where both the Military and the Civil Researcher­s are brought together.

General Sir John Kotelawela Defence University is one of the leading Universiti­es in Sri-Lanka which is also the only University offering Graduate Courses in Defense Studies in the region of South Asia.
