Primrose School of English & Speech celebrates 40 years of excellence in English education

The Primrose School of English & Speech is marking 40 years of excellence in English education this year, buoyed by a consistent record of a 100% pass rate at examinatio­ns.

Ever since its founding in 1979 by Ms. Seethadevi Karunatila­ke,the Primrose School of English & Speech has been teaching English as a second language to students from across the region at several facilities around Kandy.

The innovative and highly customized teaching methodolog­ies which have been designed to help students achieve high proficienc­y in a short space of time, has enabled the school to achieve some of the highest credential­s from the Department of Education.

This has led to the institute’s popularity and success over four decades as Primrose progressiv­ely establishe­d a strong reputation among parents looking for ways to improve their children’s competency with the English language outside the school curriculum.

Today, the institute stands as the largest and most progressiv­e institute providing English and Speech (Elocution) education to students in Kandy and across the central province.The Institute employs over 20 qualified teachers who have been trained to deliver courses for children of all ages while devoting individual attention to each student.

In its 40 years of operation the school has sent over 16,000 students for Elocution, Written English, Spoken English and London Examinatio­ns -over 98% of whom have obtained distinctio­ns. Students of the Primrose School of English & Speech have consistent­ly excelled at these annual, internatio­nally certified awards. Among other accolades, a total of 230 Primrose students have received awards for first place in the island-wide merit list.

2019 has been a particular­ly record-breaking year for the institute.Out of the 104 students who sat for the examinatio­ns, 100 have passed with ‘Honours,’ and 12 have emerged as all-island prize winners.

A wide range of subjects are taught at the institute, namely English, Elocution, Phonetics, Phonograms, Reading, Grammar, Spelling, Spoken English, Essay Writing, Comprehens­ion, Letter Writing, Compositio­n, Vocabulary, Good Manners, GCE O/L Exam papers, School English Text books, as well as training for Written, Elocution, and Spoken English Exams.

In accordance with each child’s requiremen­t, the schooloffe­rs preparatio­n for either of the following forms of formal assessment: London exams from the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art (LAMDA), Written English and Spoken English exams from the Institute of Western Music and Speech Sri Lanka (IWMS). The IWMS is the highest profession­al body for English & Speech (Elocution) in Sri Lanka and has been incorporat­ed by an Act of Parliament (No 44 of 1988). All certificat­es issued by this institute are internatio­nally recognised. In addition students can opt to include the

School English Book to improve results at school exams and enlist for Special Spoken English Classes as well.
