SAARC Women hold ‘Bridges of Friendship’ to help CCC House
The SAARC Women’s Association – Sri Lanka Chapter in partnership with the British School in Colombo presents ‘ SAARC Bridges of Friendship’ on Friday, February 28 and Saturday, February 29 at the British School auditorium. The concert will feature students from the British School in Colombo performing a wide variety of R&B, Soul, Pop, Hip hop and Jazz music, along with a joint choir of students from St Thomas’s Preparatory School as well as a performance from students from the Academy of Percussion.
Proceeds from the show will go to launch an investment fund which would continue to yield a regular income to support the running expenses of the CCC House which provides a shelter for cancer patients free of charge.
The CCC House was constructed by the CCC Foundation to become a Transit home for the “Day” patients visiting the Apeksha Cancer Hospital in Maharagama. Conceptualized with learning from developed countries, the CCC House offers a safe, clean, comfortable abode for patients during their treatment completely free of charge. For a decade many patients have benefited from this facility, which is completely managed with funds donated by corporates and individuals who wanted to support these cancer patients.
The cost of running the CCC House presently amounts to over Rs.1,200,000 (Rupees One Million Two Hundred Thousand Only) per month.
The CCC House has touched many such lives. However, its existence is completely dependent on the generous donations of people. To maintain the high standards that have been set, continuous engagement and improvement is not an option, but a necessity.
The SAARC Women’s Association – Sri Lanka Chapter which celebrates diversity and works tirelessly to aid disadvantaged communities throughout the SAARC Region has taken up the cause of the CCC House. The current President of the Sri Lanka Chapter, Roshnie de Saram, said: “SAARC Bridges of Friendship aims to be a joyous occasion, of wonderful music with the vital aim of supporting the amazing work of CCC House at Apeksha Hospital, Maharagama.”
Formed in 1996, the SAARC Women’s Association is an NGO for the promotion of strong cultural integration, friendship and better understanding between countries of the SAARC region with chapters in Bangladesh, India and Pakistan and the reach being extended to Nepal, Afghanistan and Maldives. Sri Lanka is the only Chapter to gain the status of a ‘SAARC recognised body’ since 2005 and has now been appointed as the SWA Headquarters for the region by the SAARC Secretariat in Kathmandu.
