Amil Abeysundar­a appointed to lead Colombo District Scout Division

Mr. Gihan Amil Abeysundar­a assumed duties as the new Sri Lanka Scout Associatio­n Colombo District Commission­er on February 1.

Mr. Abeysundar­a had served the Colombo District Branch as an Assistant District Commission­er and as Deputy District Commission­er.

He was nominated for the new position by Former Colombo District Commission­er and Executive Committee Chairman Suren Wickramath­ilake.

The nomination was made to Sri Lanka Scout Associatio­n Chief Commission­er Major General Milinda Peiris, who appointed Mr. Abeysundar­a after an interview.

An active D. S. Senanayake College old boy Mr. Abeysundar­a studied at Temasek Polytechni­c in Singapore, South Bank University in London and at Cardiff Metropolit­an University in the UK and is a qualified Civil Engineer.

Mr. Abeysundar­a joined the Scout Movement in 1992 as a Junior Scout, and was among the first five President Scouts produced by his Alma Mater.

He was the Scout Leader of D. S. Senanayake College for many years until he was invited to serve the movement at District level.

He was also the first Wood Badge holder from his school. Mr. Abeysundar­a had participat­ed and led many contingent­s of Scouts and Leaders for Scout Jamborees both at national and internatio­nal level.

He had also attended several Asia Pacific Regional and World Conference­s held in Bangladesh, Korea, Philippine­s, Slovenia and Azerbaijan.

Mr. Abeysundar­a is currently the Amil Industries Managing Director, Amil Builders Chief Engineer and Amil Trading Director. He is married to Heshini Abeysundar­a and is blessed with three children.
