Department of Immigratio­n and Emigration open from tomorrow

Validity period of all types of visas issued to foreigners extended till June 11

The Department of Immigratio­n and Emigration will be open with effect from tomorrow except on public holidays, the department said in a statement yesterday. The general public who visit the department to obtain services must follow health guidelines and other regulation­s in place to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

The department also announced yesterday that the validity period of all types of visas issued to foreigners has been extended till June 11. Applicants can pay the relevant visa fee and get the visa endorsed in the passport by securing an appointmen­t through the weblink before June 11.

Any person who wishes to obtain a particular service from the department from tomorrow should book a date and time in advance by calling or web extension.

If a client fails to arrive at the time allocated to them, the reservatio­n will be cancelled.

Following are some of the services that the department will be performing from May 11: Acceptance of passport applicatio­ns under One-Day service / Normal Service / Alteration of passport details ( 9 a. m. to 1 p. m.); Registrati­on of Citizenshi­p (Dual Citizenshi­p) / Registrati­on under Section 5(2) of Citizenshi­p Act (9 a.m. to 1 p.m.); Duties related Citizenshi­p of Persons of Indian / Chinese origin (9 a.m. to 1 p.m.); Extension of Tourist Visa / Short-term Business Visa / Residence Visa of the foreigners who are currently staying in Sri Lanka (9 a.m. to 2 p.m.); Providing travel details, Dispatchin­g of a passport from Sri Lanka through a third party ( 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.); Obtaining passports printed under Normal Service at the Battaramul­la Head Office (9 a.m. to 2 p.m.); Obtaining an Arabic translatio­n of passport data page and related endorsemen­ts ( 9 a.m. to 1 p. m.).
