Situated in North- East Wales ( UK), Wrexham Glyndwr University has its origins in the Wrexham School of Science and Art (WSSA), which was establishe­d in 1887.

The University has been functionin­g under its present name - Wrexham Glyndwr University­since 2008. Although a relatively young University, Wrexham Glyndwr University has carved a niche for itself as an innovative higher education institutio­n which offers applied courses leading to employabil­ity in a broad range of fields. It is a vibrant and friendly place where each student’s learning and future is given personal attention.

Inspiratio­n

The university’s name comes from the Welsh scholar and hero Owain Glyndwr and the university aims to champion some of the same philosophi­es as him. The university is proud of naming itself after a man who cherished learning, loved his country, embraced an internatio­nal outlook, and constantly demonstrat­ed an inspiring and enterprisi­ng approach to life. His spirit lies at the heart of Wrexham Glyndwr University where we set out to be bold, enterprisi­ng and open to all in everything that we do. Delivering education from its main Wrexham campus since 1887 it has come a long way since offering its first degrees in 1924.

Wrexham Glyndwr University currently offers industry-led courses and are proud of the collaborat­ions they hold with leading local and regional employers, such as Airbus, Kellogg’s, JCB and the BBC. The knowledge and expertise from these collaborat­ions are fed back into their courses to ensure students are provided with only the most relevant skills for their future career.

Community

The university is extremely proud of the opportunit­ies which they provide for those from nontraditi­onal background­s to enter higher education. More than half of their students study part- time and they are one of the UK’s leading universiti­es for supporting students from lower socio- economic background­s, thanks to their comprehens­ive Widening Access programme in the local community. The university is also the first HE institutio­n in North Wales to become a Stonewall Diversity Champion.

Location

The university began with two campuses in Wrexham (Plas Coch and Regent Street), but have since grown to include campuses in St Asaph and Northop in North Wales. They are a small university compared to some others, but with that comes a great sense of community with a fantastic support network for all students and staff.

Closest Cities to Wrexham

Liverpool, Liverpool’s historic position as one of the most important trading ports in the world has meant that over time many grand buildings have been constructe­d in the city as headquarte­rs for shipping firms, insurance companies, banks and other large firms.

Stoke-on-Trent, Stoke-on-Trent is a world centre for fine ceramics— a skilled design trade has existed in the area since at least the 12th century and there are about 9,000 firms are based in the city in diversifie­d industry sectors.

Manchester is the third most visited city in the UK, after London and Edinburgh and has a reputation for business acumen. It owns two of the country’s four busiest airports and is well known as a city of sport. Student Life

When a student joins Wrexham Glyndwr University he/ she will become part of a rich history of higher education in North- East Wales. With a history in education provision going back over 130 years developmen­t of the campus has been a continuous process and students will study in some of the same historic buildings that thousands of graduates have studied in before, alongside many new facilities that have been establishe­d over recent years. Developmen­t continues and the University is currently in the process of a £ 60 million developmen­t strategy to ensure students have the best facilities and learning environmen­t. The majority of University services and facilities are housed within the Wrexham campus, which creates a friendly environmen­t and promotes a real sense of community amongst students and staff.

Students may apply for their visas after obtaining a CAS from the University. Postgradua­te degree program students will be required to pay at least 50% of the tuition fees before the university issue the CAS and they will be required to pay the balance fees before they start studies in the UK.

In addition to tuition fees, knowing the average cost of living in the UK is an important part of a student’s applicatio­n and financial preparatio­n. Students shall provide the evidence required to cover the costs of your stay, including your travel, and living expenses.

Students will be required to show evidence they can cover a twelve month living cost of GBR 9,000 at the time of applying for a student visa to the University.
