Super-spreaders

-

Worrisome ‘super- spreaders’ of COVID-19 came to the fore once again, when of more than 350 guests who attended a wedding in Patna, India, in mid-June, 150 tested positive for the new coronavirus.

The bride groom who had been ill but was reportedly pressurized by the family to complete the marriage rituals had died a day after the wedding but had not been tested for the virus.

However, when extensive testing was done following the groom’s death, 1 in 4 guests had tested positive and the wedding is thought to have been a ‘super- spreader event’.

Star tennis player infected

The world's No. 1 in men's tennis, Novak Djokovic, had tested positive for the coronavirus on June 23, after taking part in a tennis exhibition series, the Adria tour, in Serbia and Croatia.

This top-ranked Serb is the fourth player to test positive for the virus after first playing in Serbia's capital, Belgrade. His wife has also tested positive.

There has been criticism that at the news conference which was held at the start of the tour, Djokovic and other players at the head table were sans protective face-masks as also the reporters who were present.
