Rookada Penchi in theatres now
Award winning filmmaking brothers Kalapana and Vindana Ariyawansa’s newest film ‘Rookada Penchi’ or ‘Little Miss Puppet’, a much awaited family entertainment was released on last Thursday, September 24. An EAP release, the film is now being screened at Regal Colombo, Savoy cinemas and other theatres around the country.
Elevan-year-old Rangi is the only daughter in an upper class family, living in Colombo suburbs. Her favourite hobbies are quizzing and ventriloquizing with hand puppets. Suddenly, Rangi’s mother falls ill and her parents had to travel overseas to seek treatment. Rangi and her only brother, 8-year-old Sasa are placed under the care of Rangi’s Aunt and her husband. Rangi’s uncle owns a five-star hotel on southern coastline and he takes Rangi and Sasa to his hotel for a brief stay, along with Aunty and her 2-year-old baby. goes there with Sasa without informing uncle and aunt. Rangi and Sasa befriend the carnival owner, an entertainer “Uncle Louis” and frequently visit the carnival under uncle and aunt’s supervision. From there, unfolds an adventure that changes both Rangi’s and Uncle Louis’ lives forever.
Lead actress of the film, Kushenya Fonseka is a granddaughter of veteran actress Malani Fonseka. While Kalpana Vindana Ariyawansa wrote and directed, director of photography is by Jaan Shenberger of the United States and film is edited, production designed and art directed by Kalpana Ariyawansa.

Ariyawansa, lyrics and original score by Dr. Rohana Weerasinghe while Jackson Anthony, Bandula Wijeweera and Sangeeth Wickramasinghe sung the playback.

The stellar cast of the film include Jackson Anthony, Dilhani Ekanayake, Dayadeva Edirisinghe, Dhananjaya Siriwardana, Umali Thilakarathne, Niroshan Wijesinghe, Bandula Wijeweera, Kushenya Sayumi Fonseka and Lakshika Deshan.
Veteran stars Malini Fonseka and Ravindra Randeniya make guest appearance while renowned lyricist Bandula Nanayakkarawasam in ‘Rookada Panchi’.
