Speranza – A Melodious Journey of a Decade

-

A choir of thirty young voices in the heart of Little Rome as they blend their voices together to praise God in harmonic brim.

Speranza; also the word for Hope in Italian, was formed in the year 2010 as a result of the friendship between few Old Boys of Maris Stella College and Past Pupils of Ave Maria Convent, two of the most prominent catholic education institutions in Negombo who were guided and trained during their school years by Mr. Francis De Almeida; a beautiful soul admired by Speranza even to date.

During the inauguration phase, the choir participated for school and parish level religious programmes such as Carol Services, Easter Programmes etc. As the years went by, a Christmas Carol or an Easter Programme without Speranza in Negombo became unheard of. Speranza has up to date successfully conducted three full house concerts during this decade of time; Voice of Speranza, Amore Musica and Cinemalankaaraya providing an opportunity for all Negombians to witness different genres of music & talent.

Over the years, Speranza has been reaching greater heights and crossing many seas by participating for well recognized musical programmes in the country such as “Joy To The World”; a Christmas carol concert held by the Archdiocese of Colombo and singing for three consecutive years in the Latin Choral Mass also conducted by the Archdiocese, being trained under the guidance of Mr. Gregory Rose; one of the great composers, producers and conductors in the United Kingdom.

Very recently, a cover version of the famous Michael Jackson’s song “Heal the World” was produced by Speranza including their extended family of choristers spread around the world when the country was under lockdown due to the global pandemic situation.

Speranza is more than a choir for its members, it’s a family that devote their time to praise God through the most beautiful language in the world; Music. Since the inception, as young voices, it was all about diversity, friendship and passion for music that drove them to become successful as individual singers and as a choir.

In celebration of their tenth anniversary, Speranza went live on their Facebook page as a choir on 03rd October, 2020 (Saturday), at 7.00 p.m. singing some popular classical Sri Lankan hits with a little bit of twistand trend.
