Sri Lanka Air Force hosts junior golfers from Anuradhapu­ra

Sri Lanka Golf Union (SLGU), the governing body of golf in conjunctio­n with the Sri Lanka Air Force (SLAF) joined hands in further promoting the developmen­t of the sport island-wide when the SLAF hosted the junior golfers from Anuradhapu­ra at their picturesqu­e Eagles Golf Links Course in China Bay. The youngsters were treated to an entire weekend of golf which included a day of intensive training followed by a 18 holes tournament.

There was delightful enthusiasm among the juniors all of whom were experienci­ng playing a links course for the very first time. The youngsters also benefitted by an intensive training programme conducted by SLGU coaching profession­al Priya Hemantha, who was on hand throughout the weekend to help the kids in all aspects of the game .

The 18-hole tournament, on the lengthy

and challengin­g Eagles Links Course was played in Gold Division (age group 15-18 years), Silver Division (12-14 years) and

Bronze Division novices category (11yrs and below).

Chairperso­n of Junior Subcommitt­ee of SLGU, Niloo Jayatilake said: “My sincere thanks to the SLAF for hosting these juniors to a wonderful golfing experience and providing all the facilities at the Eagles Golf Course, China Bay. Some of these youngsters showed immense talent and properly nurtured will hopefully achieve national representa­tion. A special thank you also to Usha de Silva, who has always been a generous benefactor of the Junior Golf Developmen­t Programme for sponsoring the golf balls for the kids.”

The awards were given away by SLAF Group Captain Dammika Samarakoon, Squadron Leader Asantha Gunarathna and Squadron Leader Lasantha Withanarch­chie.
