Public services curtailed in Colombo
Public services at state offices will remain restricted this week in the wake of the Coronavirus re-emerging in Colombo. The Colombo Municipal Council (CMC) will be closed until October 31, the commissioner of the council, Roshini Dissanayake, said in a statement. The building will be off limits.
An employee of the Charity Commissioner’s office in Maradana, has tested positive for coronavirus. The Mayor Rosy Senanayake and hundreds of employees who had been exposed to the patient underwent PCR tests and are in self-quarantine for two weeks.
All applications for services will have to be handed in at a facility near the main building in Town Hall.
Tax payments can be done through state banks in Colombo and via Commercial Bank internet banking. Card payments and eZ cash facilities for tax and rentals are provided through CMC’s website https://www.colombo. mc.gov.lk
The CMC’s health department and fire fighting services will continue.
The Department of Registration of Persons head office and all provincial offices are closed to the public until October 23.
The Motor Traffic Commissioner’s Department, which had suspended services for nearly two weeks, will resume limited operations from October 20 (Tuesday).
Commissioner Sumith Alahakoon said staffing is limited and services will be on an appointment basis for residents of Colombo district.
People are advised to make appointments by telephone.

“The one-day service of issuing licenses at the Werahera office is suspended until further notice. The facility to hand over vehicle transfer applications to the nearest divisional secretariat or department of motor traffic district offices is also available. Visit the head office only for essential services,” he said.
The Department of Immigration and Emigration will resume services from tomorrow. Working hours have been shortened. Visitors are requested to call, or go online to make appointments.
Applications for the one day passport service are accepted from at 8:00am to 1:00pm, while all other services are from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Only the person receiving a service and those whose presence is required are allowed in.
Those who are late for appointments will have to book again.
