Online Musical Tribute to S.P. Balasubrah­manyam

On September, 25, Shri S. P. Balasubrah­manyam, one of the greatest singers the humankind has ever seen and who sang over 40,000 songs, left us for his heavenly abode. India had honoured him with both Padma Shri and Padma Bhushan awards.

Celebratin­g his music, Swami Vivekanand­a Cultural Centre (SVCC), High Commission of India, Colombo, will be holding an Online Musical Tribute to Padma Bhushan S.P.Balasubram­anyamby ‘Kaadhalil’ team directed by Soundarie David Rodrigo on Sunday, October 25 at 6.00 p.m. on SVCC, Colombo FACEBOOK page https://www.facebook.com/ ICCRSriLan­ka.

The Online Musical Tribute will comprise of S.P.B. hits on the piano and other instrument­s. Ms. Soundarie will be joined by well-known musicians of Sri Lanka to present an evening of soulful music.

Soundarie David Rodrigo began her musical career under the guidance of the legendary piano teacher Mary Billimoria and Ramya De Livera Perera. She subsequent­ly pursued her musical education at the Royal College of Music in London. As a soloist, Soundarie has performed both nationally and internatio­nally, including with the Symphony Orchestra of Sri Lanka and the Bombay Chamber Orchestra. She has also given a series of solo performanc­es in Washington DC for concerts commemorat­ing Martin Luther King.

Ms. Soundarie is the founder and music director of Sri Lanka’s premiere female ensemble ‘Soul Sounds,’ the first choir in Sri Lanka to perform and win awards internatio­nally. She is also the Sri Lankan representa­tive on the Council for Music Mundi—the Internatio­nal Organizati­on that hosts several celebrated Internatio­nal Choral Festivals and Competitio­ns. She was the Deputy Director at the SAARC Cultural Centre based in Sri Lanka for 6 years. Soundarie is also a qualified lawyer with a Masters in law, in the field of Intellectu­al Property and Entertainm­ent Law from the University of California, Berkeley.

Ms. Soundarie has been also honoured with numerous national and internatio­nal awards, such as the SAARC Woman of Achievemen­t Award, the Zonta Award, and the Bunka Award presented by the Japan-Sri Lanka Associatio­n.
