Are Your Five Senses Trash Bins?

-

We, human beings are born with five main senses that we can see, hear, smell, taste and touch alongside with their sensing organs the eyes, ears, nose, tongue and body. They are linked with each other to transfer information to our brain in order to help us understand and perceive the world around us. However, you retain the liberty of making your own decisions, as to what sort of activities you are going to expose your senses to.

Just as there is White in the world, so there is also Black in the environment, which by all means is contradictory to White. Soothing music is enriching to the ears, eventhough the filthy yelling of a man is disheartening to the ears. Sugar is sweet to the tongue, but bitter food in contrast is vicious to the tongue. Furthermore, just as perfume is pleasing to the nostrils a dead corpse is unpleasant to the nose. A relaxing body massage would be of immense comfort to the body, whereas a thundering bash would be very hurtful to the body.

The point that I am trying to make today is that you’re going to be defined by the society based on your behavior which is ultimately the final outcome of your manner of thinking. On the same line your manner of thinking is the aftermath of the responses that you make when you encounter various feelings.

Therefore, what you have let your five senses to feel will decide your pattern of thinking, which ultimately defines your behavior, which in the end defines who you are. As we go a little in depth on this subject, it is in-deed crucial in deciding our level of success and happiness. I invite all the valuable readers of this article to carry out a self-evaluation to fathom the way in which you have molded your senses.

To initiate with, let’s look into the sense of sight. While you’re seated in front of your TV, what kind of dramas or programmes do you feed your sight with? Do you feed your sight with the unproductive dramas or programmes which are corrupt in taste and values? Whereas you obtain the liberty of feeding your sight withprogrammes which are valuable, educative, maturity building in content and rich in its roots. Unfortunately today many feed their sight with pornography and other immoral programmes that corrode their purity.

Have you trained your sight with faithfulness, by looking only at your partner or have you trained it with unfaithfulness by looking at everything around you that doesn’t belong to you and is someone else’s? Are you a person who is encouraging your sight to look at the thorns instead of the beautiful Rose?

If you expose your sight to the darker or negative side of the things which are happening in this world then your eyes will never advance into a healthy sight, merely because it has not been nourished continuously, but it has rather been corrupted with corruptible seeds. If this unhealthy practice of feeding your sight with corrupt seeds is sustained, your eyes will grow to become deteriorated and unhealthy.

Think for a moment, what have you fed your ears with so far? Is it gossip, character discrimination, prejudice, filthy jokes, hate speech, bitter words and jealous statements or have you nurtured your ears with mind elevating music, corrective words, appreciative statements, praise as well as constant thanksgiving.

Then, is your nosebound to be faithful in sensing the aroma of your faithful spouse or has your nose gone astray sensing every man or woman, just as a stray dog that tries to smell every opposing dog in the street. Likewise, how have you been treating your taste buds? Have you been treating it with junk food, alcohol, excessive sugar, detrimental food enhancers, carbonated drinks etc.? Or have you fed your tongue with organic vegetables, natural drinks, herbal drinks and healthy food.

The objective of this article is to send you a strong reminder, so that you could dig deep into yourself with a self-evaluation to assess if your five senses have been acting as trash bins that allow all detrimental and disastrous things to be dumped in. When your five senses act as trash bins, open for garbage then you will automatically be tuned into an unproductive, destroying and detrimental character, who doesn’t attract any fruit for yourself as well as for the rest of the world as a whole.

Have you ever listened to a guitar which is not tuned according to its standard chords? In that case, that guitar will not be able to produce music in harmony, it would rather act as a piece of wood struck with strings, which is incapable of producing the harmonious music it was actually meant for.

Likewise if your five senses are not tuned accordingly, to the norms which are in harmony with the sustainability of the system of the world, then you are bound to perish in terms of productivity, success and happiness.

Most recently I saw that many Sri Lankans in the social media realm, were so interested in listening to some CD’s which revealed mouthwatering gossips on famous people depicting their double standards. However, little did they know that they were exposing their ears, to chinwags that directly fed their minds with worthless things that do not contribute to their self-growth. If you were given a land for cultivation what do you think would happen if you prepare its soil with acid, pieces of glass, nails, paint, turpentine and alcohol?

The seeds that you sow will perish at the very moment you scatter them on this land, as this land has been converted into a futile soil. On the other hand, if you prepare the same soil by removing its weeds and other non-bio degradable materials, and then preparing the soil by mixing organic fertilizers, then the seeds you sow will immediately grow into saplings and then into plants and further to trees that bare fruits in many folds.

Likewise, when people’s senses are dead to what are in agreement with the perfect harmony of the sustainability of this world, then their lives will become unproductive futile gardens. Worthless to themselves as well as their surroundings.

People whom the world refers as rebels, thieves, manipulators, adulterers, murderers and likewise are the ones who have unfastened their five senses as trash bins, allowing elements and activities of destruction to be dumped in to them and then nurtured constantly and continuously. You would have heard people call them senseless people, that’s because their senses are dead to the good and they only respond to the destructive things of this world.

Therefore, it is time you diagnose yourself and your children to see the feeding lines of your five senses.

Are your five senses acting as trash bins of junk or are they occupied as fruitful soils that are capable of bearing fruits for yourself as well as the society as a whole.
