St. Peter's Negombo Branch students shine in taekwondo

Students of St. Peter's College, Colombo 4 (Negombo Branch) excelled at the 1st Virtual Poomsae National Taekwondo Championsh­ip and Sri Lanka Schools Online Taekwondo Championsh­ip 2020.

The National Championsh­ip which attracted over 700 participan­ts was conducted by Sri Lanka Taekwondo Federation while there were over 350 entries for the Sri Lanka Schools Championsh­ip organised by Sri Lanka Schools Taekwondo Federation.

ry. The 17-year-old also won a silver medal in the Schools Championsh­ip in the Black Belt category.

Tuan Zain Jayah won a gold medal at the Schools

Championsh­ip in the Under-15 (Red Belt) event. He also won a silver medal at the National Championsh­ip in the Cadet Male (Red Belt) category.

A.M.A. Ransi Innocent won a gold medal at the School Championsh­ip in the Under-11 Female (Green Belt) event. The 9-year-old also won a silver medal at the National Championsh­ip in the Kids 1 Female (Green Belt) category.

The three students are products of renowned taekwondo coach Master Upul Susitha Fernando who runs K-Lions Taekwondo Academy in Katuneriya. One of Fernando's pupils Ranuka Prabath created history at the 13th South Asian Games in Nepal in December winning the firstever taekwondo gold medal for Sri Lanka.

Fernando is taekwondo coach of St. Peter's College, Colombo 4 (Negombo Branch) whose Rector Rev. Fr. Daya Darshana Perera and Vice Rector Rev. Fr. Shalindra Kotikawatt­a give all encouragem­ent for the sport.
