Katunayake EPZ opens care centre for workers

Workers in the Free Trade Zones are provided with intermedia­te care centres within the zones with the centre at the Katunayake EPZ opened on Monday with a bed capacity of 425.

The Free Trade Zone Manufactur­ers Associatio­n ( FTZMA) together with the Board of Investment and Crystal Martin Ceylon Pvt Ltd ( CMPL) has establishe­d an Intermedia­te Care Centre in the Export Processing Zone Katunayake for BOI employees in KEPZ as well as those who work in other zones in the western province, FTZMA officials said.

The total project value is estimated at Rs. 20 million with CMPL donating one of their factory premises for this purpose while the FTZMA has sought their member enterprise­s to make their contributi­ons by donating funds according to the required number of beds and other utilities required by the care centre.

Workers will be provided with online admission and registrati­on security and meals; on- site medical care and nursing; medical counseling; and recreation and enrichment.

This care centre will provide shelter for COVID-19 positive asymptomat­ic patients of the FTZ enterprise­s not only from within the Katunayake Zone but from all other zones as well as from the member enterprise­s of the FTZMA situated outside the zones

The medical administra­tion and care will be provided with 24/ 7 medical staff by the Health Director of the Negombo Base Hospital under the guidance of t he Epidemiolo­gy Unit of the Ministry of Health.
