Scholarships for Media Literacy Training for Youth
Youth in 10 districts in Sri Lanka are offered a unique opportunity to equip themselves to shine in their next steps in their life and career with Media Literacy.
The programme is presented by Rainbow Resources Lanka, the sister company of Rainbow Institute of Communication and English, with the support of the American Center of the United States Embassy.
Applications are now being entertained from eligible candidates for an exciting Online Training on Media Literacy to equip participants to develop skills for consuming and creating media. It is 100% free of charge for selected students.
In the current environment which is flooded with information from multiple media, Media Literacy has become a vital need for young people to function effectively and go forward. It is important for them to develop the ability to identify different types of media and the messages they are sending and to view the media objectively, with the goal to find out or analyze what is being presented.
The forthcoming online training is being implemented to upskill bright youth and help them understand this important topic area.
20 outstanding youth from each of the project areas will be awarded scholarships to follow this three months online training.
HIGHLIGHTS
The training will be conducted by eminent University Lecturers in Media and Senior Journalists The training covering a total of 30 hours will take place over a duration of for 2.5 hours each week, starting end of July 2021 The Medium of instruction is English
As in all trainings conducted by Rainbow Institute of Communication, modern international training techniques with
Fun- filled activity based training will be used. As such all participants are assured of personalised attention Participants will also have Access to American Centre learning resources. On successful completion, participants will receive a certificate and allowance for data usage
WHO IS ELIGIBLE
The criteria for eligibility is as follows: anyone who is 16-25 years of age, have at least Credit pass in English in GCE O’ Level exam OR simple pass or above in General English in GCE A ‘Level exams, preference will be given to those who have held leadership positions in school (Prefects, office bearers of societies and clubs)
It is also essential for applicants to be resident in one of the project areas, have access to internet and have access to a computer or smart phone to participate in the programme.
