Anchor joins hands with Sports Ministry to support national high-performanc­e athletes

Recognisin­g that wholesome nutrition is instrument­al to develop internatio­nally-competitiv­e sportsmen and women, Anchor joined hands with the Ministry of Sports to nourish high-performanc­e athletes who aspire to represent Sri Lanka on a global stage.

The partnershi­p enriches a long term, progressiv­e approach to developing high performanc­e athletes, initiated by the Ministry of Sports in conjunctio­n with the National Sports Council. For the first time in history, 59 national ‘ Tier 1’ athletes from all walks of life have been contracted on a profession­al basis and will be developed to succeed in internatio­nal sporting games including the Olympics, Paralympic Games Commonweal­th Games and Asian Games.

Anchor will enable the Ministry of Sports to provide each of these athletes with nutrition packs throughout their developmen­t journey to support their holistic wellbeing and performanc­e.

Speaking at the signing of the partnershi­p MoU, Minister of Youth and Sports of Sri Lanka, Hon. Namal Rajapaksa stated, “It is important that we encourage a varied discipline of sports within the country and promote our diverse range of talented athletes. This programme ensures that multiple sports and geographie­s of the country are reached and athletes with great potential are strengthen­ed in each field.”

Managing Director of Fonterra Brands Lanka and Indian SubContine­nt, Vidya Sivaraja stated, “We are grateful to have the opportunit­y to be a part of this progressiv­e, historic initiative commenced by the Ministry of Youth and Sports, to champion the developmen­t of sports in Sri Lanka as a national imperative. We humbly look forward to working alongside the Ministry of Sports to uplift our nation’s talented athletes and enable access to nutrition, a vital part of their profession­al developmen­t journey. Our country is rich in talent and we take this as an opportunit­y to do our part to support these high-performanc­e sportsmen and women, as they prepare to compete in global games and inspire our nation.”
