Skipper Dinek leads Royal to first win in U-15 cricket encounter

Dinek Kinigama, the skipper of Royal College Under-15 team hit an enterprisi­ng knock of 107 and led his team to a commanding win of 260 runs against Sri Jayewarden­epura

Maha Vidyalaya in a Division I cricket encounter played at the Royal Junior ground in Colombo.

Electing to bat first, Royal amassed 332 runs for the loss of 8 wickets in 50 overs with Dinek top scoring with 107 runs off 122 deliveries. He hit 12 boundaries and three sixes during his knock and he was supported well by Mahith

Rajapaksha, who hit 62 off 64 balls, and Yasindu Abeywickra­ma, who hit a quick-fire 53 off 36 deliveries. Mahith hit 10 fours and a six while Yasindu hit nine boundaries and two sixes.

Chasing a gigantic target of 333 for victory, Sri Jayewarden­epura MV were bundled out for 72 runs in 14.4 overs with Didula Jayasooriy­a claiming a five-for (5/6) and Chiran Karunaratn­e claiming four wickets.

Batting first, Royal made an explosive start, but both their openers were dismissed early by Sri Jayewarden­epura MV paceman Thaleesha Silva in quick sessions. Skipper Dinek then took matters to his shoulders to make sure his team take control of the game with an array of stylish stroke play.
