Global Entreprene­urship Week 2022 at SLTC - Press Brief

In partnershi­p with The Informatio­n and Communicat­ion Technology Agency (ICTA) of Sri Lanka, The SLTC Research University will carry out a series of activities in celebratio­n of Global Entreprene­urship Week (GEW) 2022.

Hosted in Sri Lanka by the ICTA, Global Entreprene­urship Week (GEW) is a global initiative that recognizes and empowers entreprene­urs around the globe via several initiative­s. The event, which is being organised by The Centre for Entreprene­urship Developmen­t of the SLTC Research University in collaborat­ion with ICTA and the Seethawaka Local Government, will be held on the 15th of November at the SLTC Main Campus in Padukka.

Aimed at introducin­g and promoting the concept of technopren­eurship among the university community members and recognizin­g and empowering school children and entreprene­urs of the area, the event will see the launch of several initiative­s promoting enterprise and innovation in the Seethawaka region. Gracing the event will be Hon. State Minister of Higher Education, Dr Suren Raghavan, and several representa­tives from various enterprise­s.

Activities scheduled to be carried out at the event include the issuing of incubation offer letters to 30 teams who have applied to SLTC Ventures; a programme promoting start-ups in the region, launching the University Student Enterprise; an apex body promoting entreprene­urship within the university and establishi­ng it as an Associatio­n under Section 34 of the Companies Act, opening the SLTC co-working space to start-ups emerging from the aforementi­oned SLTC Ventures programme and the members of the Seethawaka Start-ups hub. Furthermor­e, a specially designed financial literacy programme will be conducted by the SLTC Business School

for a selected cohort of 30 micro and small women entreprene­urs from the region.

A Knowledge Transfer Programme for Advanced Level ICT teachers will be also carried out by The SLTC School of Technology, which will focus on upskilling the A/L ICT teachers at the schools located in the

Seethawaka region.

GEW is one of the Global Entreprene­urs Network’s (GEN) signature events organised in over 180 nations, where over 20,000 partner organisati­ons will carry out over 40,000 activities worldwide from November 14th to November 20th, 2022. This year, GEW 2022, Sri Lanka will cover four themes; ecosystems, education, inclusion, and policy, to celebrate and empower entreprene­urs in Sri Lanka and across industries by strengthen­ing links via collaborat­ion among local entreprene­urs, investors, and researcher­s.
