SLSI Guardian of Quality

Sri Lanka Standards institution is responsible for developing national standards for products, processes, and services in the country. SLSI, as the National Standards Body in Sri Lanka and the Member body of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) in Sri Lanka, assures consumer protection by facilitating quality improvements and thereby contributing in vital measure to national economy. SLSI ensures that the Sri Lanka standards are formulated on par with internationally approved procedures and it is vital in maintaining the quality of life of the nation. SLSI has the sole proprietorship of The SLS mark which symbolizes the quality and reliability of the product giving confidence to the user and adding value to the product. SLS symbol marked products are manufactured in accordance with applicable Sri Lanka standards. SLS mark has gained a reputation as a “Symbol of Quality which provides a third-party guarantee to the consumer. Another Product Certification of SLSI is the energy rating for electrical appliances, which is given based on a star rated evaluation up to 5 stars. Moreover, SLSI provides systems certifications to promote quality assurance activities in all sectors of the economy and currently operates twelve (12) certification schemes. SLSI renders its service to the import and export controller and Sri Lanka customs through Import Inspection Scheme to help them debar substandard quality imports and trading in the country, thereby minimizing safety and health hazards that could be occur from such inferior quality imported products. Another vital service provided by SLSI is Laboratory services which reinforce the integrated standardization activities of SLSI. It provides testing services needed for standards development, product certification, import inspection, etc. undertaken by SLSI.

In addition, SLSI provides training in standardization and quality management for public, industry and private sector personnel in order to transmit the knowledge base needed to produce highquality goods and services. Regular training sessions are held for all levels of public, industry and private sector personnel, from top management to shop floor workers.

Metrology laboratory provides the services of calibration of measuring instruments to industry & service sector organizations and for this purpose the laboratory maintains reference standards. This calibration service is available at SLSI Laboratory or on-site, depending on the client’s requirements.
