Importance of Metrology and Instruments Calibration
Industry increasingly recognizes in today’s demanding and competitive markets, good products designs and efficient manufacturing supported by properly authenticated measurements and testing. For its economic survival, in particular for the survival of manufacturing industry, Sri Lanka must adopt attitudes and practices, which lead to quality products and services in order to compete with the world markets.
Metrology is a very important approach in the industrial world. It helps to create safe environments and processes and promotes innovation. It increases knowledge and thus development and manufacture of products with consistent quality. Therefore, ensuring the reliability and accuracy of measuring equipment becomes a vital requirement. For that measuring equipment used in quality related activities have to be calibrated.
Calibration activities of SLSI fulfil the national obligation by being a part of the national measurement system of Sri Lanka. As a leading ISO 17025: 2017 accredited calibration laboratory, Metrology Division of SLSI, fulfils the calibration needs by providing industrial calibration services traceable to SI units in the fields of force, length, mass, pressure, temperature, torque and volume. Accreditation status demonstrates competency, impartiality and capability, hence it helps people to make decisions when selecting a laboratory.
Our Services
SLSI provides an extensive industrial calibration service, covering a wide range of calibration activities which are traceable to National/ International standards.
Scope of accreditation is as follows.
y Force: Universal testing machine, Load cell, proving rings y Length: Micrometer, Caliper, Test Sieve (wire cloth and perforated metal plate) y Mass: Weights (class E2 to class M2), Balance (top loading, analytical) y Pressure: Pressure gauge y Temperature: Thermometers, laboratory furnaces, Autoclaves, Ovens, Incubators, Liquid baths, Cold rooms. PRT, Thermocouples y Torque: Torque wrench y Volume: volumetric glass wear (e.g. pipette, burettes, one mark …) In addition to that aforesaid calibrations SLSI provides vast range of calibration services to ensure reliability and accuracy of measurements in the said fields. SLSI provides services to island wide industries to fulfil the calibration needs at industry premises and at SLSI.
SLSI calibration services are in compliance with the international standards requirements of ISO/IEC 17025: 2017 and accredited by the Sri Lanka Accreditation Board of conformity assessments (SLAB). Therefore, the calibration reports issued by SLSI are locally and internationally recognized.
The cost of making accurate and reliable measurement is high, but the cost of making incorrect measurement is much higher.
Customize workshops on calibration
SLSI conducts practical training workshops in calibration to fulfil the requirements for industrial personnel involve in measurements and quality assurance.
