The Polydime Group makes notable strides in the Plastics Industry

-

Polydime has been associated with the Plastics Manufacturing Industry for 24 years. It plans to celebrate its 25th Anniversary next year. From humble beginnings in a decommissioned tile factory the company has now expanded to 3 factories on the outskirts of Sri Lanka and an offshore unit in Madurai, India. All products manufactured are divided into 6 distinct business units consisting of Hydrophonic Cultivation film, Plastic in

Roll and Bag form, Multilayer Laminated Food packaging, Irrigation Pipes, Raw Material and Bioplastic based products. Whilst being a forerunner in the plastics manufacturing industry, they are the largest in Recycle Plastic processing with a full supply chain from collection to processing of waste material to the manufacture is sustainable products with recycled waste plastics.

The Polydime group was awarded 17 Lankastar Awards at the recently concluded Lankastar Awards night, hosted by the Sri Lanka Institute of Packaging at the Hotel Galadari, Colombo on the 3rd of November 2022. Apart from this they were also felicitated as a winner of the prestigious World Star Award for Innovation in Packaging for three consecutive years (2019, 2020 and 2022) and Asiastar Award for packaging for two consecutive years (2019 and 2020).

The Director for Sales & Marketing of the Polydime Group, Johann Tranchell told us that the companies vision “Is to be the most Dynamic, Innovative, Ecofriendly and Technologically advanced inventor in the plastics industry”. We have a dynamic product range that focusses on many aspects of the Sri Lankan manufacturing sector with a key focus on exports where 60% of our products are exported either directly or indirectly. What has made us successful is our commitment to innovation. Our inhouse development center focuses not just on new product development, but new means of manufacture. With a constant eye on technology and its fast evolution, we have been able to stay abreast with the global developments in this area and have ensured that we upgrade periodically to ensure efficiency is achieved. Usually when you are a plastic company people look at you differently as an environmental demon. However, the philosophy of the company is quite different. We believe that

Plastics is a necessity and promote the responsible use of plastic. Therefore, we consciously included the words “Eco Friendly” in our vision. As an organisation we are doing our utmost to reduce the virgin input of polymer in our products by making them partially or fully sustainable by including recycled plastic, biobased and biodegradable plastics. At present we strive to maintain a 50:50 balance of Virgin plastic to sustainable plastics in our product mix, striving to be in sync with the circularity of plastic.

The accolades that we have been awarded with has to be credited to the 600 strong team that we have in all departments of the organization. Further need to recognize all our vendors (both local and foreign), banks and other support stakeholders who have been very obliging during difficult times over the past 2 years especially. Last, but not least we have to salute and say a big thank you to all our customers for partnering with us. We believe that it is their success that has made us successful and with accolades of this nature we only have the drive to serve our customer better.

Polydime plans to consolidate its position in the market, however the focus now has been shifted primarily to export markets and the setting up of factories in other regions using the same model. They have been looking closely at the Philippines, Indonesia and Thailand as potential markets. “The Sri Lankan flag must be flown proudly out there in the world” said Johann and we need to ensure we do our nation proud.
