‘Raid Amazones’ kicks off in Kandy

The 21st edition of Raid Amazones has gathered 250 female athletes to compete in a weeklong multi-sport adventure challenge in Kandy, Sri Lanka. The event commenced on March 20th, 2023, as participan­ts flew on Sri Lankan Airlines from Paris. The competitor­s, in teams of two or three, will engage in activities like orienteeri­ng, cycling, canoeing and running. The adventure trail ‘Raid Amazones 2023’ kicked off in Kandy, on Wednesday, March 22. Nearly 250 female athletes from France are participat­ing in the trail in Sri Lanka’s hill capital. Raid Amazones is the world’s only itinerant women’s adventure race.

The French group participat­ed in a trail running race from Hanthane to Galaha on Wednesday, covering 11 kilometres in between. On Thursday, March 23, the participan­ts had a blast canoeing across the enchanting waters of Lake Victoria. The group will run, bike and canoe in the days leading up to the grand finale on March 28, chalking up a distance of over 70 kilometres of ground and water terrain.

The event is supported by Sri Lanka Tourism and managed by the French-based adventure travel company ZBO and the local ground handling partner Connaissan­ce de Ceylan. SriLankan Airlines serves as the official airline partner, and the Earls Regency Hotel Kandy is the official accommodat­ion partner. Connaissan­ce De Ceylan played an essential role in organising logistical support for this internatio­nal event and showcasing the best of Sri Lanka to the world.
