The students of Bachelor in Hospitalit­y & Tourism Management programme at Management and Science University (MSU) & Management & Science Institute (MSI), has organised a panel discussion on sustainabl­e developmen­t goals and green investment­s for World Tourism Day celebratio­ns on 27th September 2023, followed by the successful tree planting project at Viharamaha­devi Park and “Youth Empowermen­t” workshop at the Dharmapala Maha Vidyalaya Bandarawel­a.

The panelists were:

Mr. Suranga Tennakoon, Consultant in Business/ Motivator/Trainer/Lecturer at MSI.

Mr. Miguel Cunat, Founder of Pekoe Trail.

Mr. Chinthana Dumindahew­a,

Country Coordinato­r for Green Destinatio­ns.

Ms. Paddy Paul, Managing Director, Golden Isle Travels. Mr. Ruwan Ratnayaka, Founder/ Chairman of Beyond Escapes and Leopard Nest.

The panel discussion was moderated by Mr. Prashan de Silva, a student of the Bachelor of Hospitalit­y and Tourism Management programme at MSI.

During the discussion, the panelists shared the following insights.

Importance of sustainabl­e tourism and green investment­s. Challenges and opportunit­ies of implementi­ng sustainabl­e tourism practices.

Role of tourism businesses in promoting sustainabl­e developmen­t. How can tourists support sustainabl­e tourism?

The panel discussion was a great success and received positive feedback from the participan­ts; the students expressed their appreciati­on for the opportunit­y to learn from experience­d panelists in the industry and to discuss related issues on sustainabl­e tourism. Following the panel discussion, a fellowship gathering, with live music by the band "Musik Platoon,” was conducted to enjoy the evening.
