-

SPACIUM’23, the Science Day of St. Joseph’s College, Colombo 10, organized by the Science Union, was held successfully at the Bonjean Memorial Hall, recently.

Highlights of the event included the final round of the Quiz competition, a Drama performance by the Upper School Students, performances by the Advanced Level and Middle School Students, addresses by the Chief Guest and Rev. Fr.Ranjith Andradi, the Patron and Rector the award ceremony.

Rev.Fr.Ranjith Andradi, Patron and Rector, in his message mentioned that “the Josephian Science Day is celebrated to recognise and appreciate the significant contributions of young inventors to the College and Society, to promote scientific temper and encourage scientific thinking and to inspire and encourage young students to pursue a career in science. It is also serves as a reminder of the importance of scientific discoveries and the impact they have on our lives.

It is heartening to note that the Young Josephian inventors have selected the following most appropriate theme for the Science Day, as. “Space Exploration and Science

Fiction.” It is a combination of Science in the real world and in fiction and the emphasis is on the importance of Space Exploration to Modern Human Civilization.

I am confident that the

Science Day serves to promote Scientific education and awareness among students and encourages young Josephian minds to invent new things and help society and our Motherland towards development.

As advocated by Stephen William Hawking, who was an Engkish theoretical Physicist, Cosmologist and Author, “Science is not only a disciple of reason, but also one of romance and passion. In my opinion to be super achievers you need to have unwavering commitment, razor sharp focus, dedication, determination, discipline, laborious work with precision, perseverance and resilience.

I am sure that our young Josephians will have an impact on Scientific inventions in the near future and contribute to our College, Society, the Motherland and

World at large.

In conclusion, May I kindly request all young Josephian inventors to Live, Learn and Explore and contribute to the beautiful world of Science.
