POLYCAMPUS will deliver for the first time in Sri Lanka, the NVQ Level 5 Diploma – “Early Childhood Developmen­t Education” – (ECDE) - course. This ECDE is a national diploma with the curriculum accredited and approved by Tertiary and Vocational Education Commission (TVEC) of Sri Lanka and validated by NAITA. Polycampus is currently the only institute accredited to conduct this course by TVEC. It is a 1.5 years full time course. Hence it is ideal for school leaving young girls desirous of entering into a rewarding career which can lead to live and work in Australia.

The first course commenceme­nt at Polycampus at 30 Galle Road Colombo 6, is scheduled for midJanuary 2024. It is open for enrolment for those with GCE A/L 3 passes at one and the same sitting. Students could also enrol with predicted results.

The academic component of the diploma course is of 1 year duration followed by 6 months of industrial training at recognised Early Learning Centres in Colombo. During this phase of the course, Polycampus will provide training and coaching to students to sit IELTS Academic test as this is a requiremen­t to enrol in the degree course at University of South Australia (UniSA).

Those successful­ly completing the diploma are offered automatic enrolment in year 2 of the Bachelor of Early Childhood Education (Hons) degree course at UniSA in Adelaide, Australia. This is a course of 4 years duration but the students with the ECED diploma could complete it in 3 years. The course encompasse­s students to get hands-on experience with 110 days of field-based placements in Early Learning Centres in South Australia throughout the degree. At the end of the second year of this degree, students will be diploma qualified and thus able to do paid work in early childhood settings and in “Out of School Hours Care” (OSHC) while they complete the degree. Upon graduation with a bachelor degree in Early Childhood Education, the graduates can apply for registrati­on as EC Teachers in Australia.

The Bachelor of Early Childhood Education (Honours) course at UniSA meets the Teachers Registrati­on Board of South Australia (the Board) requiremen­ts for the purpose of teacher registrati­on in South Australia and the requiremen­ts of the national approach to the Accreditat­ion of Initial Teacher Education Programmes in Australia.

Prof Anne-Marie Morgan - Dean of Programmes (Education Futures) of the University of South Australia – a renowned academic in the field of Early Childhood Education will be in Sri Lanka in November. She will deliver a public lecture at the Polycampus – inaugurati­on event on 6th November at Cinnamon Grand The Atrium Lobby from 5pm to 6.30pm. She will also conduct one on one interviews with prospectiv­e students and parents on 7th from 3pm to 6pm at Polycampus.
