Top financier Ravi Abeysuriya’s funeral held

Top finance sector profession­al Ravi Abeysuriya’s funeral was held yesterday.

Mr Abeysuriya had a proven track record of establishi­ng and managing several financial sector institutio­ns in credit rating, investment research outsourcin­g, investment banking, stock broking and asset management.

He possessed over 20 years of hands-on practical experience, and broad knowledge of financial market operations in Sri Lanka, having been directly involved in recommendi­ng several financial sector reforms that have been successful­ly implemente­d, working closely with the Ministry of Finance (MoF), the Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL), the Securities Exchange Commission of Sri Lanka (SEC) and the Colombo Stock Exchange (CSE).

Among the many positions Mr Abeysuriya held at the time of his demise was Chairman - Colombo City Holdings PLC, Chairman - Sherwood Capital (Pvt) Ltd, Non-Executive Independen­t Director Seylan Bank PLC, Non-Executive Independen­t Director - HNB Assurance PLC, and Non-Executive Independen­t Director - Bio Foods (Pvt) Ltd.

He was previously Head of Strategic Business Developmen­t/Shared Services of Hayleys PLC, Managing Director/CEO at Fitch Ratings Lanka – the country’s first global credit rating agency, and Head of Corporate Finance at Jardine Fleming HNB Capital Ltd (later J P Morgan Chase Co), Sri Lanka.

Mr Abeysuriya was a Fellow Member of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountant­s, UK, and a Chartered Financial Analyst. He held an MBA from Monash University, Melbourne, Australia.
