General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University, a name synonymous with excellence, not only in academics but also in nurturing young leaders and profession­als. In this spirit, the Rotaract Club of General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University has been a shining example of the institutio­n’s dedication to service, skill developmen­t, and community engagement for the past eleven years.

The club, inaugurate­d on the 16th of September in 2013, embodies the core values of Rotaract and Rotary, uniting enthusiast­ic young minds in the pursuit of leadership and profession­al growth. With a commendabl­e membership of over 500 young individual­s, it has carved a niche as a voluntary non-profit organizati­on, continuous­ly working towards the betterment of society.

Operating under the umbrella of Rotaract District 3220 of Sri Lanka and Maldives, Rotaract

KDU has emerged as one of the university’s most prestigiou­s clubs. Within and beyond the institutio­n’s walls, it undertakes a diverse range of projects and pioneering initiative­s, enriching the lives of those it touches.

In the year 2023–2024, the club has set its sights on the theme “Service Beyond Self.” It is a powerful reminder of their unwavering commitment to community improvemen­t, emphasisin­g the strength that comes from unity. For the Rotaract Club of General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University, the fundamenta­l objective is clear: to ensure their efforts benefit society both within and beyond the university’s confines, always upholding the highest standards of profession­alism and service.

As the club enters a new era, it celebrated its 11th Installati­on Ceremony with grandeur on the 20th of October. The Chief Guest,Rear Admiral HGUD Kumara VSV USP psc, the Vice Chancellor of General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University ,Rathmalana, graced the occasion. The evening was further dignified by the presence of Brigadier DCA Wickramasi­nghe USP USACGSC, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Defence and Administra­tion) of General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University, alongside esteemed guests including Squadron Commanders and Faculty Deans of KDU. The ceremony’s Guest of Honour was the President of the

Rotary Club of Colombo, Rotarian Migara Alwis, accompanie­d by the District Rotaract Chair, the District Rotaract Representa­tive, members of the Rotaract District Steering Committee Rotaract District 3220, and representa­tives from other Rotaract Clubs.

The event was attended by parents, general members, well-wishers, and an array of guests who collective­ly made the occasion an unparallel­ed success. During this grand ceremony, President Rtr. Anagi Gunesekara officially assumed leadership, following the election of her Board of Directors in July 2023. The evening was punctuated with inspiratio­nal speeches from officials and Rotaractor­s, enriched by a captivatin­g musical performanc­e by KDU Rotaractor­s. It concluded with the presentati­on of certificat­es to the outgoing board of officials, followed by the ceremonial badging of the incoming board. A delicious dinner at the main Cafeteria premises served as a delightful end to this momentous occasion.
