French animated movies here in Colombo

Celebratin­g 75 years of diplomatic ties between Lanka and France

Celebratin­g the 75th anniversar­y of diplomatic relations between Sri Lanka and France, a French animated film festival is being held from November 2 – 9 at Alliance Française of Colombo, 11 Barnes Place, Colombo 7. A week long cinema festival dedicated for children and family audience will have screenings with English subtitles.

A programme adapted to all audience: very young-audience, young audience and families, adults and cinema-lovers. A total of 8 animated movies and 16 short animated-movies will be screened at 6PM on the weekdays and a special programme on Sunday November 5.

The film screenings are free and open to all on first come first served basis.

On Sunday Novemebr 5, Shortanima­ted movies with no words for very young audience will be screened at 10.30 am while comedy drama film ‘Louise by the shore’ (Louise en hiver) directed by Jean-François Laguionie will be screened at 3.30 pm.

On November 7 ‘The crossing’ (La traverse) directed by Florence Miailhe will be screened at 6 pm.

History drama film ‘Josep’ for family and general audience will be screened at 6 pm on November 8. ‘No dogs or Italian allowed’ (Interdit aux chiens et aux italiens) directed by Alain Ughetto will be screened at 6 pm on November 9. Combining poetry and realism, small and big history, in an original and personal animation style, Alain Ughetto marks a very endearing work of testimony on Italian migration.

On this occasion, a series of events are organised during the months of October, November and December 2023, to celebrate the longstandi­ng friendship between France and Sri Lanka through arts. The programme is organised by the French Embassy in Sri Lanka and Maldives together with the support of sponsors and official partners
